A story of my thought process and battle through procrastination

A question of research! A question of research… Even the title sounds daunting. Moments before I was almost too excited to begin my masters but now… Am I confused? I have loved research in the past. Delving deep into topics like the Multiverse and the Uncanny Valley. Conducting primary investigations as well as reading scientific students and the appearances in popular culture. But I wasn’t answering a question, I was answering a brief. Is this different? It shouldn’t be, should it?

I should take it step by step, the same way I have approached any large task before. Pick a question. I like question 1, or maybe question 2? Question 4? 5? Or question 3, that could work. So I couldn’t pick a question. No problem. Let's write down some ideas. A little brainstorming never hurt. Maybe one will ‘speak to me’. Nope. Okay.

I will wait for the next session, maybe some inspiration will come. Ahh, the blog. Well I can’t make the blog without the question, can I? I can feel procrastination setting in. Or has it already begun and I am only now aware of it. Make some notes on blog options. Yes, I’ll do that and get back to the task at hand. The question. Materiality? Subversion? I’ll define some words, that’s research, right? The uncertainty builds as I feel time pass around me. The procrastination monkey is here and wants to stay. DO SOMETHING! Wix, I’ll use Wix. At least one decision is made. Question 4? Yep, that’s 2 down. Blog post? Well, how about ‘Welcome to my blog’? It’s a start. Now what? Research! I had an idea on subverting the norm within design practise, so let’s start with that. Bring on the next session.

This was a creative writing piece written for a workshop. I have never done anything like this before, however, I really enjoyed it! I am reflecting on the earlier stages of the project. I still am yet to delve deep into my question but I hope this has inspired me from here onwards.
