Digital Sketchbook - Sketchbook 4

After sketchbook 3 and decided to make notes on the visuals I had collected. Using the images I collected as a result of New Wave Design research. I noticed that there was a collage effect as a theme running throughout the images I had collected. I made notes on the use of colours and photography to help me develop ideas for a response to my research on New Wave Design. The images from my sketchbook are collected below and there is a post featuring more detail on these pages elsewhere on the blog.

The links for where I retrieved these images from will be included in the bibliography.

After this, I looked at April Greiman Specifically. My thoughts were that maybe I could discover what parts of practice specifically were subversive.

In a previous post, I discussed my initial research in 'Subversion in Graphic Design' which is where the initial ideas for this continued research on New Wave came from. I think that post pinpoints the start of my thought process and maybe that is a good point to refer back to.

It is at this point that my digital sketchbook contains my notes on my 'Plan of Action' and then the resulting changes I made to that plan after discussing with one of my peers. The initial plan was too over thought. I was jumping back and forth, worrying about what could interfere with the results of my 'experiment'. I think I need to 'subvert' my practice by not overthinking first and foremost.

If I was to reference back to creativity, over planning and over thinking seem to hinder the creative process. 'Subverting' this aspect of my current practice would enhance my creativity. Whether that is an argument I can discuss is an issue for the future, but I think I have found what it is that is needed of me now I have reflected on some of what I have done so far.

I have not included all research I have completed in this sketchbook has building them has been quite time consuming. I have put images of what I have already included my blog in Sketchbook 4 so I could collate all my ideas but I don't think I will be creating anymore digital sketchbooks as it is taking time away from work that is needed to be completed. I think instead I should be using the blog itself as my sketchbook/journal, as I believe this is what it was intended for.

Before discussing my ideas with a fellow student, I set to work on the initial plan. I began collecting 'found' items such as old postcards, coloured papers, magazines and even did some watercolour washes to add some colour and texture to the work. The results are in the images below.

I have begun to delve deeper into my question and really try to understand subversion and creativity. I am yet to respond to this research on the blog but I am hoping to use some of what I have learnt as content for my presentation.

There is work that I am yet to post and I feel, even though these sketchbooks have helped me reflect, they have slowed down my blogging process.
