Collage Experiments: Part 1

As mentioned in my plan of action, I have begun to work on collage as a form of subverting my practice in response to my research on New Wave design. I have begun to collect some items that I could use. I have the paintings I have completed, some magazines and some postcards.

Above is a collage of images, made in Illustrator, I collected of April Greiman's work along with one other image of another piece of work I found on Pinterest. All content is included in the bibliography.

This was to help me get a vibe for the style of work before I start. Obviously, a lot, if not all, of this work is responding to a brief but there are elements of the design style that I wanted to make sure I thought about beforehand. I thought of collage as Greiman's interesting way of working with page layouts reminds me of college, and as it is something I haven't done very much, I thought I would give it a try.

Rather than only use collage, I wanted to go for a more mixed approach. To work more like Greiman, I was going to photograph the pieces I had put together and then place them in compositions digitally. In this post, I will just be showing the photographs I took.

Above are 2 examples of the watercolour experiments I have shown before. I thought these might be useful for the compositions.

Other than the postcards, all the images here are collected from Elle and Vogue magazines. The postcards are for Portsmouth except for the leopard one which is for Marwell Zoo. I tore some of the images to make sure you get that collage effect for the digital compositions. I left glare in and other errors when editing to follow Greiman's lead.
